Ubiquiti UniFi Dream Machine Pro (UDM-Pro) is a rack-mounted all-in-one device that combines a security gateway, firewall, VPN server, UniFi Network controller and NVR functionality for UniFi Protect. The device has nine Gigabit RJ45 ports, two 10G SFP+ ports and an internal bay for a 3.5-inch hard drive, making it the hub of a complete UniFi system.

UDM-Pro can manage more than 100 UniFi devices and over 1,000 simultaneous clients, and runs the complete UniFi Application Suite with Network, Protect, Access, Talk and Connect in the same interface.

Ports and WAN redundancy

UDM-Pro has a total of nine Gigabit RJ45 ports and two 10G SFP+ ports. By default, one 10G SFP+ port and one Gigabit RJ45 port are used as WAN, leaving eight Gigabit ports and one 10G SFP+ port for LAN.

Good to know

• A hard drive for UniFi Protect is not included and is selected and installed separately in the 3.5-inch bay.
• The network ports on UDM-Pro do not provide PoE. Access points and cameras are powered from a PoE switch or separate PoE injector.
• The eight LAN ports are Gigabit. If you need 2.5 Gbit/s to client devices, add a switch with 2.5 GbE ports.
• The operating temperature of −10 to +40 °C means the device should be installed in a ventilated indoor location.

Its main strength is the combination of 10G SFP+ WAN, powerful IDS/IPS and a built-in NVR bay – eliminating the need for both a separate controller and separate recording unit. Keep in mind that the hard drive is purchased separately and that the ports do not provide PoE, so a PoE switch is required for access points and cameras. If you need 2.5 Gigabit on the LAN side, dual hard drive bays or higher IDS/IPS performance, Dream Machine Pro Max is a better choice. If a compact desktop device is sufficient, Cloud Gateway Max is a more affordable alternative.
