Ajax MotionProtect White – wireless motion detector with pet immunity

Ajax MotionProtect Jeweller is a wireless indoor PIR motion detector that detects unauthorised movement while being able to ignore smaller pets. With an estimated battery life of up to five years, encrypted Jeweller communication and cable-free installation, it is one of the fundamental components of an Ajax alarm system.

The detector has a detection range of up to 12 metres at the recommended mounting height of 2.4 metres and a horizontal detection angle of 88.5°. Sensitivity can be set to three levels, and the SmartDetect algorithm is used to reduce the risk of false alarms.

Reliable motion detection

MotionProtect uses a passive infrared sensor (PIR) that detects heat changes caused by people moving within the monitored area. Movement speeds from 0.3 to 2 m/s are detected.

The detector can monitor:

When movement is detected, the alarm is immediately sent to the Ajax hub for further processing.

Pet immunity

The detector is designed to reduce the risk of false alarms caused by smaller pets.

MotionProtect can ignore:

• Pets weighing up to 20 kg
• Pets measuring up to 50 cm in height

This normally allows cats and smaller dogs to move freely without triggering an alarm, provided that the detector is installed at the recommended height and the animal cannot enter the detection area by climbing on furniture or stairs.

Long range and stable communication

Ajax Jeweller technology provides secure and energy-efficient communication between the detector and the hub.

This provides:

• Range up to 1,700 metres in open space
• Encrypted two-way communication using block encryption and a dynamic key
• Frequency hopping to protect against interference and jamming
• Device authentication to protect against spoofing
• Detection of lost communication after 36 seconds

The long range also allows the detector to be used in larger buildings.

Temperature compensation and temperature value in the app

MotionProtect provides temperature compensation throughout its operating range of −10 °C to +40 °C, allowing reliable detection even when the difference between body temperature and room temperature is small.

This allows the system to:

• Display the current device temperature in the Ajax app
• Use the temperature value as a condition in automation scenarios

Up to five years of battery life

The energy-efficient design provides long operating time without frequent battery replacement.

Installation tips for the best performance

• Install the detector at a height of 2.4 metres, as recommended by Ajax.
• Position it so that an intruder moves across the detection area rather than directly towards the detector.
• Avoid pointing the detector towards windows, heat sources, air-source heat pumps or radiators, as rapid temperature changes can affect detection.
• Check the signal strength in the Ajax app before permanently securing the SmartBracket mount.

Good to know

• MotionProtect is intended for indoor use. The enclosure rating is IP50 and humidity up to 75% is permitted.
• The detector includes a SmartBracket mount that simplifies both installation and servicing.
• An Ajax hub is required for alarms to be forwarded to the app or an alarm receiving centre.
