The Epson EcoTank ET-8500 and ET-8550 are multifunction printers with refillable ink tanks, designed for high-quality photo and document printing with a low cost per page. Both models use the same six-colour ink system and touchscreen, but differ in maximum paper size: the ET-8500 prints up to A4, while the ET-8550 supports formats up to A3+.

Six-colour ink system for photos and sharp text
Both models use Epson Claria ET Premium ink in six colours: pigment black for sharp text on plain paper, plus photo black, grey, cyan, magenta and yellow for photographs with smooth tonal transitions and neutral greys.
Flexible media handling
The printers have several paper feeds: front cassettes for A4 and photo sizes, plus a straight rear feed for specialist media such as craft paper and card up to 1.3 mm thick and 2 metres long. Both models support borderless printing and direct printing on compatible CDs and DVDs. The ET-8550 also has an additional rear feed for A3+ media.
Performance and quality
Print resolution is up to 5760 × 1440 dpi. ISO print speed is up to 16 pages per minute in black and 12 pages per minute in colour, with a maximum plain-paper speed of up to 32 pages per minute. A 10 × 15 cm photograph takes approximately 25 seconds. The CIS scanner has an optical resolution of 1200 × 4800 dpi. Both models support automatic duplex printing on A4 plain paper.
Simple control and mobile printing
Printing, scanning and copying are controlled using the built-in 10.9 cm colour touchscreen. Mobile printing is supported through Epson Smart Panel, Apple AirPrint and Mopria.
Good to know
Photo yield, stated as up to 2,300 photographs per ink set, can vary with the image, paper type and print settings. The ET-8550 supports automatic duplex printing only on A4 plain paper; A3+ printing is single-sided.
