Ubiquiti UniFi AI Turret – 4K camera with facial recognition and two-way audio

Ubiquiti UniFi AI Turret is a 4K surveillance camera with a 1/1.8-inch 8 MP sensor and advanced AI analysis directly in the camera. In addition to detecting people, vehicles and animals, it supports both facial recognition and licence plate recognition, making it the top turret model in the UniFi Protect range.

The camera is weather-resistant to IP66 and impact-resistant to IK08, features two-way audio and is powered via PoE+. Recordings are stored locally on your own UniFi console without subscription fees.

Benefits

  • 4K video, 3840 × 2160 (16:9), at up to 30 frames per second
  • Large 1/1.8-inch 8 MP sensor with HDR
  • Facial recognition and licence plate recognition
  • AI detection of people, vehicles and animals
  • IR night vision up to 40 metres
  • Two-way audio with microphone and speaker
  • IP66 and IK08 – resistant to weather and physical impact
  • Five mounting options: ceiling, arm, wall, pendant and junction box

4K resolution with a large sensor

AI Turret uses a 1/1.8-inch sensor, significantly larger than those in the G5 series, providing better light capture and more detail.

  • Resolution 3840 × 2160 (16:9), 4K
  • 8 MP CMOS sensor, 1/1.8-inch
  • Up to 30 frames per second
  • HDR for scenes with both bright light and shadow
  • 2D and 3D noise reduction plus motion-based noise reduction
  • Privacy masking and text overlay

The high resolution allows you to zoom into recorded footage and still distinguish faces and licence plates.

Facial recognition and licence plate recognition

The AI features are the camera's main distinction compared with other UniFi Protect cameras.

  • Facial recognition
  • Licence plate recognition
  • Person detection
  • Vehicle detection
  • Animal detection

Analysis takes place in the camera and creates searchable events in UniFi Protect, saving considerable time compared with browsing through hours of recorded footage. Facial recognition and licence plate recognition involve the processing of personal data and must always be used in accordance with applicable data protection legislation.

Very wide field of view

The optics cover large areas from a single camera position.

  • Horizontal: 109.9°
  • Vertical: 56.7°
  • Diagonal: 134.1°

Combined with the 4K resolution, this means you can cover a large area while retaining detail in the image.

Night vision up to 40 metres

The camera has built-in IR illumination and an IR filter for around-the-clock surveillance.

  • IR night vision up to 40 metres
  • Built-in IR LEDs
  • Automatic day/night switching with an IR filter for natural colours during the day

The range makes the camera useful on large yards, parking areas and industrial sites without lighting.

Two-way audio

The camera has both a microphone and a speaker.

  • Listen to ambient sound in real time
  • Speak to people on site through the UniFi Protect app
  • Option to intervene when unwanted visitors are present

Audio recording and playback must always be used in accordance with applicable legislation.

Robust construction

The enclosure is built for exposed locations.

  • IP66 rating against dust and powerful water jets
  • IK08 impact resistance – withstands significantly harder impacts than IK04
  • Enclosure made from aluminium alloy and polycarbonate
  • Operating temperature −30 °C to +50 °C
  • Dimensions ⌀118 × 111 mm, weight 990 g

IK08 makes the camera suitable for environments where vandalism is a real risk, such as entrances, garages and public areas.

Five mounting options

The camera can be mounted in several different ways depending on the installation.

  • Ceiling mounting
  • Arm mount
  • Wall mounting
  • Pendant mount
  • Junction box mounting

This allows the same camera model to be used under eaves, on poles and in high-ceiling installations.

Powered via PoE+

The camera is powered over the network cable but requires more power than the smaller models.

  • Gigabit RJ45 port
  • PoE+ according to IEEE 802.3at
  • Supported voltage 42.5–57 V DC
  • Maximum power consumption 20 W

Allow for 20 W per camera when calculating the PoE budget of the switch.

Good to know

  • The camera requires PoE+ (802.3at) and consumes up to 20 W. A switch with a 52 W PoE budget therefore has room for two such cameras – check the budget before ordering several.
  • Unlike the G5 models, AI Turret has a Gigabit network port rather than 10/100.
  • At 990 g, the camera is significantly heavier than the G5 series – make sure the mounting surface can support it.
  • 4K recording uses more storage space than 2K. Size the hard drives in your NVR accordingly.
  • Facial recognition and licence plate recognition are subject to data protection rules – check the requirements for your organisation before enabling these features.
  • The camera requires a UniFi console running UniFi Protect for recording and management.

Why choose Ubiquiti UniFi AI Turret

  • 4K resolution from a large 1/1.8-inch sensor – clearly more detail than 2K models
  • Facial recognition and licence plate recognition directly in the camera
  • 40-metre IR range covers large areas in darkness
  • Two-way audio lets you speak with visitors on site
  • IK08 and IP66 – withstands both weather and physical impact
  • Five mounting options suit most installations

PC & HiFi Örebro recommends

We recommend UniFi AI Turret in locations where image quality truly matters – at the main entrance, the property driveway or where you need to be able to read a licence plate afterwards. Its main strength is the combination of 4K from a large 1/1.8-inch sensor, HDR and AI analysis that can identify both faces and plates, making recorded material searchable rather than merely archived. Keep in mind that the camera consumes up to 20 W and requires PoE+, so calculate the switch's PoE budget before ordering several – and that 4K uses considerably more storage space, which should influence the choice of hard drives in your NVR. If you only need conventional surveillance without licence plate recognition, G5 Turret Ultra is more than sufficient at a clearly lower cost per camera position.
