ASUS TUF Gaming A1 – rugged M.2 NVMe/SATA enclosure, USB-C 10 Gbps
ASUS TUF Gaming A1 – rugged M.2 SSD enclosure, USB-C 10 Gbps
The ASUS TUF Gaming A1 (ESD-T1A) is a rugged external SSD enclosure for M.2 drives, built to military test standards for demanding environments. It is suitable for gaming and console storage as well as professional work in the field or while travelling.
The enclosure supports both M.2 NVMe (PCIe) and M.2 SATA SSDs in the same housing and connects through USB-C at transfer speeds up to 10 Gbit/s.
Benefits
- Up to 10 Gbit/s over USB-C 3.2 Gen 2x1
- Supports both M.2 NVMe (PCIe) and M.2 SATA SSDs in 2242, 2260 and 2280 formats, up to 2 TB
- MIL-STD-810H drop protection and an IP68 rating against water and dust
- Q-Latch tool-free SSD installation without screws
- Compatible with PCs, laptops, PS5 and Xbox
Dual format support – NVMe and SATA
The enclosure supports both M.2 NVMe (PCIe) and M.2 SATA SSDs in 2242, 2260 and 2280 formats, with capacities up to 2 TB. This makes the enclosure flexible: either an older SATA-based M.2 SSD or a modern NVMe drive can be used in the same housing. NVMe drives can reach up to 10 Gbit/s over USB-C, while SATA-based M.2 SSDs are limited to the SATA standard's maximum of 6 Gbit/s.
Q-Latch – tool-free installation
The ASUS Q-Latch mechanism secures the SSD without screws. Installation and drive replacement are therefore quick and simple, which is useful for users who frequently work with storage or need to change drives in the field.
Military-grade durability
The enclosure is tested to MIL-STD-810H for drop resistance, using the transport drop test under Method 516.8, Procedure IV, and is rated IP68 for protection against dust and temporary immersion in water. This makes it a rugged option for travel, LAN parties, workshop use or field environments. The certifications refer to durability under the specified test conditions and do not guarantee protection against damage caused by extreme or repeated stress.
Good to know
The enclosure is supplied without an SSD. Add your own M.2 NVMe (PCIe) or M.2 SATA SSD in 2242, 2260 or 2280 format. Actual transfer speed depends on the type of SSD installed and the USB-C port of the host computer or console.

PC & HiFi Örebro recommends
The ASUS TUF Gaming A1 is suitable for users who want to build a fast external SSD that can withstand travel, LAN parties or field work, for example as expanded storage for a PS5 or Xbox. When maximum NVMe speed is the only requirement in a stationary environment, a simpler NVMe-only enclosure may be less expensive. We will help you select a suitable SSD if you are unsure which drive best matches the enclosure.
