The Hilti HLD-3 is a professional hollow-wall anchor from the Hilti HLD range, designed for secure fixing in plasterboard and other hollow building materials. Unlike a conventional universal plug, the HLD expands behind the panel with folding wings that lock the anchor in place and provide a stable fixing under greater loads.
The HLD range has a 10 mm anchor diameter and is available in 28, 35 and 44 mm lengths. The HLD-3 is the 35 mm version and is intended for panel thicknesses up to 25 mm, making it particularly suitable for double plasterboard measuring 2 × 12.5 mm.

When should you choose the HLD-3?
The HLD-3 is designed for walls where a conventional expansion plug cannot obtain sufficient grip.

For thinner panels, choose the 28 mm HLD version; for thicker walls, choose the 44 mm version. For heavier hollow-wall installations, the Hilti HTB-3 metal anchor is the stronger alternative.
Stable fixing behind the panel
As the screw is tightened, the anchor's wings open behind the panel and create a large bearing area. This provides considerably better grip than a conventional universal plug in plasterboard and reduces the risk of the fixing loosening or rotating under load. The ribbed exterior also helps keep the anchor stationary during installation.

The permissible load for a hollow-wall anchor depends entirely on the wall construction, panel type and panel thickness. Always consult Hilti's current HLD technical documentation before making a safety-critical fixing, and choose a metal anchor such as the HTB-3 when the load is high.

The HLD-3 is our preferred solution for lighter installations in double plasterboard because its folding design provides substantially better grip than a conventional universal plug. Check the wall thickness before drilling: when the total panel thickness exceeds 25 mm, choose the 44 mm HLD instead. For very heavy items such as a large TV bracket, we recommend the HTB-3 metal anchor. The fixing must always be selected according to the wall material, load and individual installation.
